Managing Partner, C4CS
Oliver S. Schmidt is an enthusiastic member of IABC and co-founder of C4CS, LLC, a leading strategic communication and crisis management firm with offices in Pittsburgh, PA and Charlotte, NC. In his current role, Oliver coaches clients on how to communicate effectively and helps them build crucial skills for protecting and enhancing corporate reputation. Prior to establishing C4CS® in the late 1990’s, he worked as a strategic communication and crisis management consultant in Europe and Asia.
Managing a successful consulting firm with clients hailing from across the globe is not always easy, but Oliver is proud of the fact that C4CS® is known internationally for its expertise and track record. His experience with complex crisis preparedness planning and crisis response assignments has made Oliver a trusted advisor to corporate leaders. He enjoys working with executives on strategies to manage strategic issues and business crises that threaten corporate reputation and have the potential to significantly impact the bottom line.
An IABC member for many years, Oliver appreciates that the organization is focused on professional networking and skills development. “Learning from others has always been important to me,” he said. “IABC makes that possible by bringing together professionals from numerous communication disciplines. Having lived in multiple countries, I also like the fact that IABC is a global organization.”
Oliver is a recognizable face at IABC/Pittsburgh, having been a featured speaker on topics such as crisis communication and issues management. In spring 2014, he and his C4CS® colleague and former IABC Southern Region chair, Dianne Chase, presented an on-camera media training seminar for the chapter. While his C4CS® colleagues and other senior leaders often encourage him to take on an official IABC role at the international or regional level, Oliver is content to support the Pittsburgh chapter for now.
Many people might not know that Oliver grew up in the American sector of what used to be West Berlin. “I was a student at the Free University of Berlin when the Iron Curtain came down in 1989,” Oliver reminisced. “If my family and I did not live in Pittsburgh, we would likely reside in Berlin, which is a fantastic city that has changed tremendously in the last 25 years.”
Oliver holds a Master Degree in Business Administration and Communication Science. He lives in Pittsburgh with his wife and two children.
